124: News: Webbs to file contempt charges against NBI: lawyer

MANILA, Philippines – A lawyer for Hubert Webb will file contempt charges against several officials of the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) for supposedly bungling the Vizconde massacre case.

Lawyer Demetrio Custodio, Jr. will file before the Supreme Court today contempt charges against 7 former and current members of the NBI for losing the 1 evidence that could have bolstered Webb’s case.

The SC will resolve next year the murder case even without the semen specimen taken from 18-year old victim Carmela Vizconde.

In a unanimous decision in April, the full court approved Webb’s request to subject to DNA testing the semen specimen in order to prove or disprove rape.

Based on testimonies from several camps, however, the SC said in October that the semen sample is already gone.

Custodio said the missing sample is “prejudicial” to Webb’s case.

Of the 7 officials of NBI that will be named in the charges, only 2 are currently in active duty. – report from Charlie Mendoza, DZMM
