343: Pinky Webb returns To Morning TV

Distinguished broadcast journalist Pinky Webb is set to join the morning news and talk program “Mornings@ANC,” which reports on local and international news, technology, sports, health, trends, and entertainment – every piece of information Filipinos need to jumpstart their day.

With her experience as a news anchor and radio commentator, Webb wants to add more interviews and meticulous discussions on current events to the jam-packed two-hour program, with co-anchors Ron Cruz, Ginger Conejero, and Paolo Abrera.

“We want to make sure, as ANC has always been the leader of making news 24/7, that in ‘Mornings@ANC,’ we will be able to deliver the most recent stories the viewers want to know, hear, and find out… so they can trust us to be the first ones to deliver the news to them,” Webb expressed.

342: Where is Pinky Webb

abs-cbnNEWS.com

MANILA, Philippines - The country has been searching for Pinky Webb months after she left ABS-CBN morning show "Umagang Kay Ganda" (UKG) and dzMM program "Tambalang Failon at Webb."
Now, she is back to get her feet wet and her hands dirty.

"I'm going to be a field reporter. It's what I want to do...and what management wants me to do," Webb told abs-cbnNEWS.com.

Webb will start her reporting job with ABS-CBN's flagship newscast, "TV Patrol," in a couple of weeks. She used to be a substitute news anchor for the said program.

But as early as today, she has been busy preparing for what lies ahead.

"Yeah, definitely I am [preparing for this]," she said.

Webb's stint as a reporter had been put on hold for at least four years due to her hosting projects in ABS-CBN Channel 2 and radio dzMM.

She said she enjoyed being part of "UKG" and "Tambalang Failon at Webb," but these took some time away from her reportorial projects.

"Feeling ko sobrang demanding...For example sa 'UKG' gising ka ng 3:30 a.m.," she explained.
"Sa ANC (ABS-CBN News Channel) I did it (field work) a number of times. Live kami noon, marami akong labas noon. Kaya lang, noong nag-mainstream Channel 2 ako, talagang naka-focus ako sa shows ko. Ang dami eh," she added.

The big switch

Webb may have left her early morning and radio programs, but she is still part of "XXX," an investigative news and crime show on ABS-CBN.

She will also be the new face of "Mornings@ANC," which is aired on the cable news channel at 9 a.m. on weekdays.

Webb, who used to anchor "Dateline Philippines," will swap places with veteran broadcast journalist Gigi Grande.

"ANC kasi is hard to let go. I started at broadcasting with ANC in 1997, and I never left ANC," she said when asked why she accepted the project.

"So masaya naman ako na we are able to (switch places). 'Dateline' ako dati tapos si Gigi naman nilagay nila doon."

Grande will be joining TJ Manotoc in "Dateline Philippines," which is ANC's longest running newscast.
Other new programs lined up for the cable news channel include Ces Drilon's revival of current affairs program "Pipol," "Primetime on ANC" with Tony Velasquez and Karmina Constantino, and "Teditorial," a two-minute commentary segment by Teodoro Locsin on select ANC news programs.

Meanwhile, Webb said she is looking forward to her new assignments. "Yes (it's going to be like this for the next few years). But let's take it a year at a time," she said

341: Pinky Webb, Ces Drilon get new shows on ANC

ABS-CBN News

MANILA, Philippines – As part of ABS-CBN News Channel's 15th anniversary, the 24/7 news channel formally announced its new programs and segments.

ABS-CBN News and Current Affairs head and ANC director Ging Reyes welcomed the press and guests.

“This is part of our effort to continue to improve our content offerings on ANC. As you are probably aware by now, we are celebrating our 15th year,” said Reyes.
A new "Mornings @ ANC" will greet your day with the dynamic team of Ron Cruz, Ginger Conejero, Paolo Abrera and Pinky Webb hosting the show.

“I’ll be doing Mornings @ ANC, tapos I’m going to be a reporter for channel 2. Of course I’ll still be doing XXX and I think I’ll be doing another show,” said Webb.
With her busy schedule, Webb said she doesn’t have the time for her love life.
“Ngayon, wala,” she said.

If there's a saying that news never sleeps, there's no lunch break for news on “Dateline Philippines”, anchored by TJ Manotoc and former ABS-CBN Australia Bureau Chief Gigi Grande.

“I’m so excited. It is such a big score for me, I think. By the time we get to Dateline Philippines at 12 noon, everything will be put in context and it will be easier for us to tell the story of what’s going on,” said Grande.

In the evening time slot, "Primetime on ANC" will be anchored by Tony Velasquez and former North America correspondent Karmina Constantino.

“It’s good to be back. It’s nice to see all the familiar faces and all these talents na nag-progress and nag-improve,” said Constantino.

“The real test of a news channel is how much stamina and perseverance you put into following a story. We’ll never drop a story until we find out what the conclusion is and you’ll never get lost. You will also see the story unfolding from hour to hour, minute to minute. For the social media-savvy out there, you will be able to follow us through ANCAlerts, you will get real time updates from the interviews that we are airing, as well as from upcoming stories,” said Velasquez.

An ABS-CBN original "Pipol" with Ces OreƱa-Drilon is making a comeback on ANC, digging deep into the persona of today's newsmakers.

“Masaya ako dahil na-miss ko ang Pipol at maraming fans ang Pipol. Kaya lang ang nakakatawa ang mga fans ng Pipol ay high school pa noon, ngayon nagtatrabaho na. Nakakatuwa kasi sa tagal na nawala ang Pipol, maraming personalidad ang hindi na-feature sa Pipol, so pagkakataon na natin ito na makita ang kanilang buhay,” said Drilon.

Drilon revealed a subject she wants to have on the show.

“Nabasa ko ang kanyang talambuhay sa isang magazine, talagang grabe. Hanggang ngayon taga-hanga ako ni Nora [Aunor],” she said.

Teddy Locsin Jr. will give his "Teditorial" every night on "The World Tonight".
Catch the new look of the ABS-CBN News Channel on Monday, October 10.

200: ABS-CBN News anchors join Showtime as ‘hurados’

MANILA, Philippines – Respected ABS-CBN News anchors joined the roster of Showtime’s “special hurados” on Saturday.

Courtesy from ms. Karen Davila's Twitter

Just in time for the talent search’s return to its original time slot, Karen Davila, Pinky Webb, Gus Abelgas and Ted Failon were invited to judge the performances of the show’s Saturday contestants.

Everyone anticipated the journalists’ “sampol” wherein they showed off their talents.

First to showcase her skills was Webb who danced to the tune of “Papaya Dance.” This was popularized by her former boyfriend, actor-host Edu Manzano.

Asked by “Showtime” mainstay Vhong Navarro who taught her the dance steps, Webb said in jest: “Si DJ Mod. Hi DJ Mod, siya ang [nagturo].”

After Webb, Davila surprised everyone as she sang Lady Gaga’s famous song "Bad Romance". She also showed her dancing talent which made the audience happy.

Moreover, Abelgas was not ashamed to show his other side as he danced, delighting viewers.

Far from his usual serious look, Failon, meanwhile, showed off his skill in mixing music, acting as a DJ.

195: Pinky Webb: Edu and I will always be friends

MANILA, Philippines - "Umagang Kay Ganda (UKG)" host Pinky Webb on Friday cleared the issue about her relationship with actor-TV host Edu Manzano.

In an interview during a press conference for UKG's newest hosts -- Andrei Felix, Phoemela Baranda, Iya Villania and 2010 Miss Universe 4th runner-up Venus Raj, Webb said that she and Manzano are just good friends even after reports came out that they are set to get married.

"Basta kami, magkaibigan pa rin kami. I don't think that will ever change," said Webb.

Webb and Manzano, who were sweethearts for 5 years, were set to get married in October 2009. Manzano, however, decided to run for the vice presidency, and this led to the couple's break-up.

The news anchor who refused to react to Manzano's announcement that they are back in each other's arms again just stressed that the former Optical Media Board chairman will always be an important part of her life.

"Ha? Umm... Basta Edu is and will always be important and a part of my life," Webb said.

194: Pinky: Edu always important; a part of my life

During the 2010 Presidential campaign, reports claim that Edu Manzano and Pinky Webb broke up to allow the actor-politician to focus on this bid for the vice presidency as running mate of then administration bet Gilbert Teodoro. But less than a year later, Pinky met with some members of the press and reluctantly answered questions about her relationship with Edu.

"Basta magkaibigan pa rin kami. I don't think that will ever change," Pinky said.

"Edu is and will always be important and a part of my life," the ABS-CBN news anchor and host of "Umagang Kay Ganda" added.

When asked to confirm rumors that she and Edu had already tied the knot, Pinky avoided the question and asked to spare her personal life instead.

"Well everyone knows what's happened. Yung personal na nangyari sa buhay ko at sa pamilya ko is out. I don't really talk about it because sa ganun kasi I don't want to be in the news and I hope that doesn't sound bad. Ayoko kasi palakihin pa yung sinasabi na ganito kayong dalawa o nagpakasal kayong dalawa, minsan ayoko na sagutin kasi pag sagutin ko pa, lalabas pa rin ako bukas. I think I've given my share to the public. Pero sa personal na buhay ko, I really want it to be mine not because kinahihiya ko pero ayokong masyaodng pinag-uusapan ang mga ganun," said Pinky during the pocket interviews with the press for the reformatted ABS-CBN morning show.

174: Edu Manzano denies marrying Pinky Webb

MANILA, Philippines – Actor Edu Manzano has denied marrying broadcaster Pinky Webb in a clandestine ceremony abroad.

In a hurried interview on Tuesday at the Conspiracy Bar on Visayas Avenue in Quezon City, Manzano laughed off reports that he and Webb got hitched overseas because they don't want their marriage to become like a carnival.

Manzano attended awarded poet and journalist Jose F. Lacaba’s “Salinawit,” a regular show done in selected music bars in Metro Manila. The show features some Filipino songs translated by Lacaba from original English and other languages.

Manzano admitted that his friendship with Webb has deepened even after they split up. They broke up after he decided to run for the second highest position in the country in May 2010 elections.

“It's not true. I didn't marry Pinky,” he said. “Although I just arrived from my Asian trip last night (Monday), it doesn't mean I got married.”

MANILA, Philippines - The camp of Lauro Vizconde believes there is enough time left to appeal his case before the Supreme Court (SC) before the 10-year prescriptive period ends in June 2011.

"I think we have enough time. After all they've submitted the motion for reconsideration. We'll have to wait what will be SC's action on this motion," Vizconde said on ANC's "The Rundown" on Wednesday.

Vizconde issued the statement as he, together with chief of the Public Attorney’s Office, Atty. Persida Rueda-Acosta, filed a motion for reconsideration on the high court's December 14 ruling on the Vizconde massacre case.

Represented by Chief Public Attorney Persida Rueda-Acosta and other lawyers from the Public Attorney’s Office, Lauro Vizconde told the SC that in 1986 it granted the second motion for reconsideration of the wife of Rolando Galman, the military-tagged assassin of Sen. 159: News: Vizconde not giving up seeks reversal of ruling on Webb acquittal

158: News: Vizconde asks SC to reconsider acquittal of Webb, 6 others

MANILA, Philippines -- Lauro Vizconde on Wednesday asked the Supreme Court to reconsider its decision acquitting Hubert Webb and six others in connection with the grisly death of Estrelita, Carmela and Jennifer in the early 90s.

In its 84-page motion for reconsideration, Vizconde, through Public Attorney’s Office (PAO) Chief Persida Rueda-Acosta, urged the high court to recall and resubmit for re-deliberation the case and reverse its December 14 decision acquitting Webb, Antonio Lejano, Michael Gatchalian, Hospicio Fernandez, Miguel Rodriguez, Peter Estrada, and Gerardo Biong.

Acosta said the high court departed from its long line of decisions where it always pointed out that “in a criminal case, factual findings of the trial court are generally accorded great weight and respect on appeal especially when such findings are supported by substantial evidence on record.”

She said that while the high court acknowledged that star witness Jessica Alfaro can lie “with such abundant details some of which even tallied with the physical evidence at the scene of the crime,” it did not say that Alfaro actually lied and failed to specify the alleged lies she told in court.
