174: Edu Manzano denies marrying Pinky Webb
MANILA, Philippines – Actor Edu Manzano has denied marrying broadcaster Pinky Webb in a clandestine ceremony abroad.
In a hurried interview on Tuesday at the Conspiracy Bar on Visayas Avenue in Quezon City, Manzano laughed off reports that he and Webb got hitched overseas because they don't want their marriage to become like a carnival.
Manzano attended awarded poet and journalist Jose F. Lacaba’s “Salinawit,” a regular show done in selected music bars in Metro Manila. The show features some Filipino songs translated by Lacaba from original English and other languages.
Manzano admitted that his friendship with Webb has deepened even after they split up. They broke up after he decided to run for the second highest position in the country in May 2010 elections.
“It's not true. I didn't marry Pinky,” he said. “Although I just arrived from my Asian trip last night (Monday), it doesn't mean I got married.”
Manzano, fondly called Doods by his close friends, has been shuttling around Asia because of his work with the International Intellectual Property Alliance, a private organization of which he is a member.
“I have offices in many key cities in Asia like Hanoi in Vietnam and other Asian countries,” he revealed.
He used to head the Optical Media Board (OMB), a government agency that regulates and monitors the manufacture and distribution of optical media in all their forms and to impose penalties for their illegal reproduction.
His advocacy and fight against piracy of optical media have been the actor’s pursuit even after leaving OMB and losing in the 2010 vice president election.
His son, Luis Manzano, earlier belied news that his dad secretly married Webb.
